I’ve never dropped $5000 so quick.
As soon as I saw the email, I scrambled out of bed, bounded downstairs to find my debit card, and sent the payment. (At least, I did after my bank called to check a Nigerian prince wasn’t doing something fraudulent with my account.)
I was finally going to meet her. The woman who showed me the possibilities of writing creative words into the internet and watching money come out. She was coming over from her home in Costa Rica and the business retreat was just over an hour from my house. *Squeal.* This opportunity probably wouldn’t ever come around again. I couldn’t not go.
That retreat was just over a year ago, as Facebook Memories kindly reminded me, and I’ve since forged a friendship with “the woman” (Ash Ambirge, if you’re wondering), worked for clients she’s referred to me, and found myself asking “what would Ash do?” any time I’m struggling with a business decision.
But even though those are a few of the results I got from last August, so much of what I value came from the experience.
Being shown to my gorgeous boutique hotel room where classical music was playing on the radio and fresh shortbread lay in wait for me.
Opening a gifted hot pink Kate Spade notebook to find a handwritten letter from Ash herself.
Hearing the stories of a small bunch of ambitious women as we sat on plush sofas by the roaring fire. (Yes, a roaring fire. In August.)
Shoving my feet into wellies provided by the hotel, along with coats and maps to explore the countryside.
Eating posh pork pies in a field in the rain. (Don’t ask.)
Talking business on big sun-loungers in big sunglasses when the sun finally came out.
Getting a hug of validation from the person whose opinion I value more than most.
WHAT you do matters. But HOW you do it matters more.
The tiny details.
The thoughtful gestures.
The unexpected extras.
Which is why I wanted my new website to be less “this is what I do” and more “this is how I do it”.
